The fields are not free. Neither are league fees, insurance, equipment, referees, or everything else that keeps a soccer club going. Too often, adult players act like soccer should cost them nothing, even though someone has always paid. If we want the game to grow locally, everyone has to do their part.

As the Spring 2026 season comes to a close, we want to thank every player, family, coach, volunteer, and supporter who has helped make Summit Valley United and Summit Valley United Academy what they are today. From our UPSL and WPL teams to the many youth players who attended tryouts, your commitment and passion continue to drive the club forward. As we grow, we are actively seeking coaches, managers, and volunteers to help build the next chapter of Summit Valley United.

The modern 3-4-3 is no longer just a formation on paper, it’s a dynamic system built on shifting structures across every phase of the game. From a 3-2 build to wide diamonds, a box midfield, and a three-pronged attack, it creates control, flexibility, and constant movement. When understood properly, it becomes a complete way of playing, not just a setup.

The “pay-to-play” model in U.S. soccer continues to limit opportunity for players based on cost rather than ability. While many clubs rely on player dues to operate, it doesn’t have to stay this way. At Summit Valley United, we are working toward a different model, one that reduces financial barriers and creates real pathways for players to develop, compete, and be seen.

We are excited to announce the launch of the Summit Valley United Academy, beginning Fall 2026. We will field teams across West Virginia and Virginia, building strong programs in both areas. With established leadership and players in West Virginia, we can move quickly while continuing to grow in Virginia. This marks a major milestone for the club and a big step forward for soccer in our region.

There are plenty of formations that look good on paper but fall apart the moment the game starts. The 4-2-2-2 is not one of them, but only if it is coached properly and executed with discipline.

Summit Valley United is growing faster than ever — from our beginnings as Berryville FC to fielding two adult teams and launching a full youth academy. With players traveling from across Northern Virginia, the Shenandoah Valley, and West Virginia, we’re building something real. This year, we’re inviting local businesses and community partners to help us take the next step and support a club that represents our region with pride and purpose.

Summit Valley United Academy is now part of the Virginia Youth Soccer Association as we build toward Fall 2026 academy teams and expand our player pathway.

Choosing the right league is not about status. It is about honesty. The strongest clubs grow by aligning their level, commitment, and goals with the right competition. Pick the league that builds your foundation now, and you will compete with greater confidence and purpose later.

Every year, semi-professional outdoor teams attract players who look outstanding in pickup games, dominate in indoor leagues, or shine in recreation soccer. They have great footwork, confidence in tight spaces, and often look like the most skilled players on the court or at a casual weekend match. But when they try to step into a structured semi-professional outdoor environment, many struggle.

Strong teams win through the middle. The center of the field controls rhythm, balance, and flow. When the core connects, center backs organizing, midfielders guiding, players communicating; everything works. When it breaks, chaos follows. Control the middle, and you control the game. That’s where leadership, discipline, and soccer live.

Practice tells you everything about a team. If sessions are casual, distracted, or disorganized, then the games will be, too. If the quality of practice doesn’t reflect the demands of competition, losing becomes inevitable. Talent matters, but attitude matters more. A few players with negative energy, constant complaints, or a lack of effort can quickly poison a team's culture. That doesn’t mean cutting everyone, it means being honest about who fits the vision and who doesn’t

Players love to play — and that’s fine. But there’s a difference between playing and practicing. Scrimmages test what you’ve learned; they don’t teach it. They’re the product, not the process. Players who only want to scrimmage are chasing comfort, not growth.
