Building a soccer club takes money. There's really no better way to say it. Fields need to be rented. Leagues have registration fees. Officials need to be paid. Players need equipment and kits. Insurance, technology, training equipment, facilities, tournaments, travel, and countless smaller expenses are costs most people never see.
When you are trying to build competitive adult teams and a growing Youth Academy at the same time, those costs add up incredibly quickly.
Hearing "No" Is Part of It
One thing I have learned is how much work goes into finding sponsors. You send emails, make phone calls, talk to local businesses, follow up, explain what you are trying to build, and then follow up again. And you hear "No" a lot. Sometimes you don't even get the "No." You simply never get a response.
That can be frustrating, especially when you know exactly what additional funding could do for the club. But fundraising is a numbers game. You can't let ten companies saying no stop you from finding the one company willing to say yes.
Every "No" simply means we keep looking for the next "Yes."
The sponsors who have already chosen to support Summit Valley United and Summit Valley United Academy are incredibly important to us because they have chosen to invest in something still being built. They aren't simply supporting a team for one season. They are helping us create the foundation for what we believe this club can eventually become.
What Sponsorship Actually Does
For Summit Valley United and Summit Valley United Academy, sponsorship isn't simply about putting another logo on a shirt or adding a company to our website. Every additional dollar we raise goes back into creating opportunities and reducing how much we have to ask players and families to contribute.
Sponsorship can help us secure better, more consistent fields; reduce player and Academy fees; purchase kits and equipment; cover league and tournament costs; support coaching and player development; and create opportunities for players who may otherwise struggle with the cost of competitive soccer.
It also helps us grow.
We are continuing to build our adult men's program, working toward establishing a competitive women's program, growing our Youth Academy in West Virginia, and preparing to begin building the Academy in Virginia. Every one of those things requires resources.
Help Us Build It
So this is also an open request.
If you own a business, work for a company that supports local organizations, know someone who might be interested, or simply believe in what we are trying to create, we would love to have a conversation.
We will keep sending the emails. We will keep making the calls. We will keep hearing "No," and we will keep asking anyway.
Because every time someone eventually says "Yes," it gives us another opportunity to make the club a little better, make soccer a little more accessible, and move another step closer to the vision we have for Summit Valley United and Summit Valley United Academy.
